Under his direction, the Institute’s financial position improved significantly, as we ended the financial year 2003 with a surplus of S$1.03 million, which was 0.68% higher than in 2002. The favourable financial standing was a result of prudent measures taken. These include the timely renting out of our Bukit Tinggi premises which yielded a stream of annual income, as well as the move of our Secretariat of Anson Road to No.1 Pasir Panjang, resulting in net savings of S$577,000 per annum. The move to Marketing House has enabled both the students and the Secretariat staff to enjoy bigger premises and better facilities at a more convenient location. At the same time, it has uplifted the morale of the Institute’s staff, while enabling them to work more efficiently.
Overall, the Institute’s profile has been raised in the last four years. This is due in no small measure to Dr Teng’s relentless push to organise more interesting networking platforms and marketing-related events for our members. Membership benefits and perks have also improved considerably under Dr Teng’s stewardship.
Besides being able to attend a variety of activities, ranging from evening talks, CEO breakfast/lunch/evening talks, corporate training programmes to executive seminars, workshops and conferences, members also have much better perks including waiver of joining fees at various affiliated clubs and other goodies.
Although Dr Teng was president of MIS for four years, he has been serving in the Institute’s Executive Council for 14 years. By any yardstick, 14 years in Council, 4 of which as the President is indeed highly commendable. His unswerving dedication and spirit of voluntarism are admirable, and his exemplary contribution has been instrumental in raising the bar of marketing excellence in Singapore.
